| This skit, or the idea for it at least, might be the oldest one in the T. Bob archives. Sekshun Cheeph and I came up with the idea of a set of police whose job it would be to enforce the laws of physics. Man! This must have been written in like
1997, I think. At least in its primitive stages. Originally this was supposed to be a video, so it was hard, when I went to rewrite it -- in 2001, I think -- to audio. Anyway, when I rewrote it for the second time, it wasn't very polished, so I sat on it for a while. Then, in the summer of 2002, I
think, Sekshun and his brother Sudsy McPoopinthetub (of Beerdad fame) told me they were coming to visit. Naturally, my first thought was "Physics Police!" So I finished writing it, fully adapted it for audio, and waited for their arrival. Then they arrived! And we recorded the skit. My choice in music here fits really well. I wanted a reggae song, and one day realized that Phish's song Makisupa Policeman not only was a reggae-ish song, but also was about policemen! I think the "bad boys" thingy I recorded over it is pretty silly. I think Walter really liked it. Ooh!! Actually, I forgot that I also put Welcome to the Jungle in the background as well! Good choice, Adjessant! Gee, maybe I should be a music choice manager. Anyway, I think it really captures the "intensity" of pulling someone over for breaking the Law of Universal Gravitation. Oh, wait...that's not til the second season. Speaking of which, Walter mentioned something he loved about this skit, that each season of Occifers only has one episode! The biggest challenge I had in recording this skit in audio as opposed to video was getting the whole marbles scene across. It's hard to paint an image of a two colliding marbles losing momentum purely with sound. But I think it works. I had to modify the text a bit to make it a bit more obvious that this was what was going on. Of course, the other challenge was having one of the occifers get knocked down by the momentum stored in one of the baggies. And I don't know where the ending came from. It's kind of bizarre, and doesn't follow the rest of the skit. But I suppose that's the way it's supposed to be. Another silly thing about this skit is Sudsy's line "Something's not right here, Vince..." Well, in case you couldn't tell, that's not really Sudsy delivering that line. It's me. What happened was, I had Sudsy read through all of his lines, and I guess he missed this one. Luckily, their visit came on a round-trip visit to Pennsylvania...after they left for there, I went to put the skit together and realized Sudsy had left this line out. So, I went ahead and recorded it myself in my best Sudsy voice. It was supposed to be temporary; indeed, I had Sekshun and Sudsy swing back through North-of-Boston on their way back to Maine just so we could have Sudsy record the line he missed. It's just that I never got around to editing his voice in...and by now, I just think it's funny that the inconsistency is there. |
