| If I remember correctly -- and there's a good chance that I don't -- I think this is the first skit that I ever did all on my own. And, you know, it's been hard, since Walter and I have been able to do this [tbob.net], we've been living in very different
towns which are quite a distance away, so it's not very easy for us to get together and do this kind of thing...so there was this period when I think we both had lots of skits we had written but were...it was just impossible for us to get together and work on producing them.
And I think, for a first-time effort, it turned out pretty good. I kind of regret using Bela Fleck for this skit, for the background music...unfortunately, it was the only thing in my music collection at the time that I could find that was even close to Irish kind-of Celtic music. Which I realize is very different. But maybe that shows how small my music collection was. But the fortunate thing is that the timing of the music worked out good, and that's what I think ties this all together. This is another one of those skits that takes a while for people to kind of get into the swing of it, and to realize that, 'OK, yeah, this thing' supposed to be funny.' The first part, where I talk about Riverdance and Lord of the Dance...there actually is a lot of subtle humor in that. I guess one thing that I didn't know when I wrote this skit was that both Riverdance and Lord of the Dance contain men AND women. Which, of course shows that you need to do some research before you sit down and write a skit. Or you can pretend it's supposed to be that way and claim it's funny. Ha ha. |
