Okay, okay. I concede on this one. It just didn't work. I wrote this one around the same time I wrote Cold War Reenactment, but this one was a lot more focused, while at the same time dragging on endlessly. I can't quite explain it. I guess this skit won't really excite you unless you're into Phish, since that's the band and the fanbase upon which it's based. See, when you go to a Phish show, you encounter many different types of fans: the internet geek, the drug addict, the groupie who's never heard the music before, the taper, etc. So we wondered how this kind of "scene" would apply to a Christian Rock band. To be honest, I think we could have been a lot more clever in making the correlation. It's too obvious for Phish-heads, and too subtle for everyone else. But it was fun to make, and Walter and I both got the joke. Which maybe is all that counts in a flop like this. Some of the highlights of recording this skit: recording the "drum circle" with my old drumset; tearing the shrink-wrap off Walter's new bible and having the first passage we opened up to become part of a T. Bob Tubb skit; recording the crowd by putting a shitload of reverb (thank you Ronnie Dobbs) on our voices. |
