Wow. This one holds such a special place in my heart, I don't know where to begin.

I feel like I've called many skits "the first skit we ever made," but this was definitely one of them. It was one of the first ones I ever wrote, and I remember presenting it to Walter at his place, and he was like, "Yeah, we've got to record this." So we did. And it was one of the ones, I think, where we were both reading our parts into the same microphone at the same time (nowadays, we tend to read our parts one at a time). Which may be why some of the vocals are louder than others.

One of the things Walter and I always talk about doing is a remake of this skit. It can be so much funnier if it's just a little faster, and we both remain convinced that this is a pretty damn funny skit, let alone concept.

Another funny thing about this skit is how little we knew about the Cuban Missile Crisis when we went into it (the skit, not the crisis). We totally have all our history wrong. But, we realized, that's what's so funny about it all: a group who is supposedly gung-ho about the Cold War knows so little about it! It's one of those things that comes back helping us, not haunting us.

Walter went in after we had recorded and edited the whole thing, and had Sudsy McPoopinthetub (with whom he was living at the time) record a few lines. And I think it makes all the difference in the world, since Walter and I each played about seven parts each throughout the skit. Of course, one of the moments of vindication for this skit occured when my brother listened to it for the first time and was so impressed that we had so many people come together to work on this skit. He was actually fooled by all the voices Walter and I did!
